Discussion of restoration of office, including acquisition of equipment, and photos below.

The Hampton Roads Chapter of the NWSA has been interested in helping Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin BB-64 Museum of Norfolk Virginia. This effort was spear headed, almost solely, by ExAG2 Dennis Pauly.

Dennis has been researching and doing correspondence and phone calling with many organizations. This effort finally culminated in a visit to the museum and ship by Dennis and AGCS ret, Bob Daigle recently.

The Weather Shack on the O4 level was found to be clean and neat as a pin. It was sparsely filled with some weather equipment and books. Getting to the space was up a steep and narrow ladder, and once there it was small and no portholes to check the weather. After lengthy discussions with museum personnel and tour guide, it was felt the weather spaces would not be suitable for routine tours of the ship.

The next option would be to get involved with improving the information and interest in the Balloon inflation area. Also, the Nauticus museum has a general weather section in the museum proper. They are always looking for new things to display and interesting weather facts. These are routinely displayed in the museum and the assigned caretakers often are available to answer questions for those on tours.

So, Dennis and the HRC membership, are setting their goals to these ends. If there are any Weather folks that served on the Wisconsin, that might have pictures and/or short stories of their experiences on this magnificent ship, please let us know. We are looking for pictures of the balloon inflation/launch area, but pictures of the weather shack would also be helpful. Pictures and/or stories can be sent to; fdcross@charter.net.
