Plans for our Reunion #46 (Oct. 04-08, 2021 in Savannah, GA) are again rolling along with a few changes from before.

Welcome Aboard dinner will still be a Pizza party. Trolley Tour lunch will now be at a more historic venue, The Pirates House. This very old building and its underground chambers hid Pirates and their booty during days of yore. Interesting little shop and very good food.

Plans for our #46 reunion will still be highlighted by a tour of National Museum of The Mighty Eighth Air Force ( Two very informative books about The Mighty Eighth make very comprehensive and emotional reading:  "MASTERS OF THE AIR" by Donald Miller and "THE MIGHTY EIGHTH" by Gerald Astor. Reading either of these books is bound to make you feel a part of the museum. There were 350,000 personnel who served in the Eighth Air Force. More than 26,000 were killed and 28,000 became POWs. Incredibly, their losses surpassed those suffered by our Marines in the Pacific during World War II. Winston Churchill called them "Masters of the Air."

Some Helpful Info

I can tell you from experience, a tour thru this magnificent museum is not only educational but very emotional. There is a Battle of Britain film. You will be immersed in a bombing mission, see life as a POW and the bravery of escapes, and commemorate the valor of the Tuskegee Airman.

But that’s only a small part of this wonderful, exciting experience. There are a total of 16 sections that cover every aspect of the Air War over Europe and the people that lived it. There is also a beautiful English Chapel built as an exact replica of those in Great Britain. The Chapel watches over the Memorial Garden, where Plaques honor every Squadron that flew with the Mighty Eighth.

It’s a very easy drive to the Airport, downtown Savannah, or any other places we might travel. If you have never been to Savannah, you are going to love this place. The picturesque homes and lovely squares and gardens, lend to the history of this old and beautiful city.

Driving along the cobblestone river front will have your imagination ducking a pirate’s sword or dodging a whirling cannon ball…Coming to your senses you’ll notice quaint little shops and restaurants filled with atmosphere and great food.   Try to visit the historic Hunter Army Air Force base and Tybee Island’s beach front, or perhaps cruise thru Johnny Mercer’s Moon River District. Wherever you go in this town…Savannah says WELCOME!!

Just a few food notes when you're out and about – Great food can be found at Sam Snead's off exit 104. It’s a classic pub with a global twist in a space filled with memorabilia from pro golfer Sam Snead. Or, if you have an appetite for some excellent British cuisine, including Steak and Ale Pie, Sausage Rolls and Cornish Pasties, you’d be hard pressed to beat the Pie Society, located on Canal Street in nearby Pooler and downtown Savannah. There is also the lovely and famous Gryphon Tea Room located downtown across from the river just off Bay Street, great for a quiet lunch in a setting of mahogany bookcases & stained glass.

The Chamber of Commerce will provide us with maps and tour books…so… COME ON DOWN!!
